Motion graphics are common in advertising, music videos, films and websites, too often forgetting performance art. The latest project from studio Molho directed by Marcelo Altino Garcia is mid-way between these two concepts. The studio produced and conceived the set design of the multimedia opera Brazilian « Dulcineia & Trancoso », a project of the most original, not only because of the nature of the device but also the enormity of the piece.

Like every year, AIDES association launches its campaign to strengthen its field actions with Zizi Graffiti, a humorous spot directed by Yoann Lemoine. This great animated film reminds that the HIV vaccine doesn't exist and that the best protection is condoms. The action takes place in a public toilet where graffitis abound. Among them, a weenie is desperately looking for a relationship with his female counterpart. Unfortunately, all the drawings avoid like the plague and Zizi wanders like a lost soul behind basins and drains. Until a real girl, touched by his distress, draws him a condom. The effect is immediate: the character is assailed by a horde of female graffitis. Once again, sensitivity is an expression of Yoann Lemoine' style. His animated film for Tiji channel, The Balloon, and his metaphor of the imagination of children are still in our memories. Zizi Graffiti is an excellent movie whose basic idea - graffitis as characters - is brightly running until its conclusion. Zizi is a nice character that is a real tour de force considering its nature. Second tour de force, the film has nothing alarmist or inappropriate. An urban fable whose necessary happy ending leaves an optimismic imprint in people's minds.
LeMob has quickly gained a flattering reputation. Actually, two swiss motion graphics major figures have wisely decided to link up: Bart Wasem and Neil Stubbings. There is a very cinematographic style in their work, a propensity for 2.5D and a sense of humor delivered (like in the recent short Lost and Found) that are rooted in their inventive directions. If you are an After Effects lover, you shouldn't ignore their mastery of the tool and search for some instructive behind the scenes in their portfolio. The Brothertunes music video, is again very cinematographic with a "Sin City" look. Nevertheless, the piece has its own identity which makes it a success. Here is a little Q&A with Bart Wasem, director.

New Kerli's music video "Walking On Air" is another journey through the looking-glass. Directed by Aggressive, the piece takes place in a strange world between Lewis Carroll and Tim Burton. A mysterious character offers a strange doll to a girl - Kerli - who lives in an isolated house and which is a likeness of her face. Between fantastic tales to asian legends, the video goes beyond the influence of its models thanks to a very productive imagination of its creators. All the compositing was done in After Effects, all the 3D in 3DS Max.

For the last Nova Prod campaign, the agency Young & Rubicam asked to 8 directors to create a film on a musical style to illustrate the Grand Mix. Director at Passion Pictures, Romain Ségaud (Imagina 2003 Grand Prize for Tim Tom, his end study short co-directed with Christel Pougeoise at Supinfocom) has chosen the theme of ELECTRO to make a journey in a colourful world where its use of organic elements and its sense of space work wonders. This humorous film called some details with its director.
