This month PetPunk creates the cover illustration and a short film entitled Woos for Computer Arts Magazine's issue 172. The issue focuses on the way new artists are revolutionizing the creation of moving images.
PetPunk was asked to examine the process and evolution of turning illustration into animation. Gediminas Šiaulys and Andrius Kirvela, the two Lithuanian directors have favoured form by examining a mass of fluid, color and fractals from every angle. A liquefied mass that gives the sensation of a still moment, a slow movement whose colorful drops ponctuate the time. Gediminas drew the illustration and then passed it on to Andrius to create the animation. He rebuilt the elements in CG from the illustration using the same characters and brought it into a miniature 3D set. The fluids were shot live action. At last, there are the many layers of texture and elements combined with the concept of repetition wanted by the directors. The result is bright and the approach is judicious. Rather than trying to propose a thought, the duo has chosen to cultivate their skills as creators. The viewer should make his own opinion.
