Fantastic Mr.Fox

MakingOf has an interesting behind the scenes video aboutFantastic Mr. Fox movie.

Adapted from Roald Dahl, Fantastic Mr. Fox is a stop motion movie directed by Wes Anderson, the kind of director we wouldn't have expected in this genre. His previous films reveal a personal style and a good sense of humour (The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, The Darjeeling United). The film looks like very different from Tim Burton / Henry Selick productions (The Corpse Bride, James and the Giant Peach) and technically more handcrafted - a will which obviously gets away from it.

The making of confirms this impression when Wes Anderson manipulates puppets on a small piece of decor. The work pace looks fast given the project, that is surprising. This is not the case but an accelerated sequence simultaneously shows the work of an animator and the animation in progress, in the same shot, which is stunning. The puppets were made by Mackinnon & Saunders, a company that had already worked on The Corpse Bride's ones. This reference makes this document even more fascinating. I take this opportunity to point out that MakingOf is full of exciting documents, which fill a void in the area

In theaters : November 15, 2009 (US release).
